Wheeldon Off-Road Centre in Halwell near Totnes (South Devon) had cause for celebration this half-term with record attendance figures for Junior Off-Road training coupled with the visit of double World Superbike champion Troy Corser. Throughout the half-term week, Wheeldon Off-Road Centre ran four full days of training with over 80 school children (including 16 girls) partaking in this exciting sport, many for the first time. With a cost of just £70 per session (morning or afternoon), each child received personal tuition, free use of equipment and plenty of track time during each 2.5 hour session.

With the hectic 2009 World Superbike season drawing to a close at Portimao in Portugal on Sunday 25 October, Troy Corser looked to the tranquility and beauty of South Devon, and the stunning Adventure Cottages on-site, as the perfect location for a family break during the half-term school holiday. The BMW Factory World Superbike rider enrolled his son, Kalani, into Wheeldon’s Junior Off-Road Training programme for a session on Thursday morning. Although Kalani regularly rides an off-road motorcycle at home under the expert eye of his father, Troy was keen for his son to gain further off-road tuition under the expert eye of ACU accredited instructors, and Wheeldon Off-Road Centre owners, Andrew and Jim Savery. Troy’s involvement was not just limited to his own son, as the former World Superbike and Australian Schoolboy Motocross Champion passed on some valuable advice to a number of the children taking part, before taking to the circuit himself for a few laps post training. Troy showed an avid interest in the running of the Junior Training and the progression of each rider throughout the session, before lining up with all the riders for a group shot at the end of the morning. Wheeldon Off-Road Centre is not just the UKs only all-weather indoor off-road training facility, it is the only school that caters for the complete tuition of children, from basic skills and motorcycle safety, right through to race preparation. Tuition comes from a team of highly experienced ACU instructors, and riders are initially assessed on the specifically designed indoor Junior track, before moving onto the main 30,000 square foot indoor arena. Learning new skills onboard the latest Suzuki GB DR-Z70 semi-automatic and geared DR-Z125 off-road machines, confidence grows rapidly and the kids are soon flying over the whoops, firing out of berms and jumping the table top in a completely safe, fun, all-weather environment.

Troy Corser: “The Junior training at Wheeldon is a great opportunity and experience for kids to go and learn how to ride motorbikes in a safe and controlled environment. All of the instructors take the time out to explain the controls and operation of the bike. The variety in the circuits at the complex, and its all year indoor riding can't be found anywhere else that I know of. The staff were particularly helpful and friendly and the whole set up makes it a great place for a family get away. The pool and games room are fun to use during ‘rest’ times and the cottages are very homely and welcoming. I would definitely recommend Wheeldon as a perfect get away for families, ladies, and gents alike. And I will definitely be going back." Andrew Savery, Wheeldon Off-Road Centre: "Once again a great half-term week, made even better by the bonus visit of 2 times World Superbike Champion, Troy Corser. We are privileged that the Corser family chose Wheeldon Farm as their family holiday destination. Of course, young Kalani Corser had been taught very well by his father but this was the first opportunity he had to ride a proper dirt circuit on one of our junior courses. All the children on the circuit showed great respect for each other and very much appreciated the encouragement from Troy himself during the session. I think he would make a great teacher but fear his salary would be out of our league!" To finds out more information, or to book a place, click on www.wheeldontwo.co.uk or call (+44) 01548 821784.
